Remodling our kitchen and I need help figuring out some colors. The floors are gona be light oak hardwood (fabricated) floors. The cabinets will be white bead board, back splash will be reproduction pressed tin and the ceilling will be corragated metal. I cannot decide on the color for the countertops . They will be Corian. I am doing a country thing (roosters) with barn reds, yellows, jade greens etc. I also need an idea for paint color (even though only a small portion of the walls will be painted due to the lay out of the room).
Because you have several other colors going on, I would keep the main background color of the Corian countertop in the same range of the floor color. The great thing about Corian is there are neutral/ tan background colors with accents that will coordinate with your accent colors (see below). Here are a couple of Corian color suggestions:
Sahara - Textured yellow-based neutral with a range of particles, the large in off-whites and small in contrasting dark brown
Beige Fieldstone - A warm beige yellow-based neutral smooth, low contrast texture with sparsely distributed, large particles of whites, warm wood tones and cool sages
Mojave - Warm sandstone color base with with small darker tone-on-tone particles - a natural complement to a wide range of woods in the yellow to red family
Riviera - Has a neutral sandy beige base with a mix of small and large white particles

The paint choice depends on the size of the kitchen (don't go too dark in a small kitchen) and the color scheme for the rest of your house. But personally I think red sounds great with what you described! Good luck!

Drywall finishing on ceiling-a disaster! We've really made a mess of it!?
Due to circumstances too complicated to go into, my husband and I ended up trying to finish the drywall on our kitchen ceiling ourselves. We were in a bind and couldn't get a contractor, so we used compound, taped, sanded, primed and painted the ceiling 2 weeks ago. In some places the tape has bubbled, in others it's clearly visable under the tape, the ceiling looks, well, bad.
My question is: how best to fix it? Do we sand down to the original tape (please, nononono!) and redo it? Is there a textured paint we could use? Pressed tin panels (country house)? We don't have a lot to spend on the project, so any advice would be appreciated! (Yes, I know we messed-up when we painted)
Dear Ones,
Tear off the old paper tape and joint compound over it. and replace with Fiberglass Mesh Drywall Tape. The paper tape does not adhere well to the ceiling or the joint compound, so when you paint it the paper tape absorbes moisture and separates from the joint causing bubbles, cracks and etc. The mesh tape will bridge the gap and adhere to the ceiling. The joint compound can then flow around the mesh tape and make contact with ihe ceiling giving you a secure attachment of ceiling to joint compound. The guys at the store can help you find the Mesh tape. A little more expensive, but it does the job.
