How to dress decently to match different occasions?
Being a guest, we are always confused about how to dress up properly to the ceremony? What to wear to match the occasions? And usually knowing what to wear to the fete can be quite a challenge for most of us. There are daytime weddings, candlelight weddings, beach ceremonies and garden ceremonies. Then you have the question of formal, informal or semi-formal.
That's quite a line-up, but there's no need to feel overwhelmed.
Certain rules do apply, and following them can make your life a little easier when it comes to wedding wear.
The cardinal rule, of course, is to stay away from white unless there is a special request from the couple. It's best to avoid off-white and ivory as well. (JayZ and Beyonce requested guests wear ivory.)
This way you won't have to worry about looking like the bride or anyone in the bridal party.
For daytime weddings, TheKnot editors say a rule of thumb is to dress as you would for any other social event held at that hour during that season. For example, if it's a spring brunch or luncheon, a pretty suit or floral dress would be appropriate for women.
Pants are OK too, preferably tailored trousers, palazzo pants or a lightweight pantsuit.
While we love our little black dresses, these editors say you don't want to wear them for a daytime wedding. Cocktail dresses just aren't daywear. And wearing black in the sun will just make you hot.
Daytime ceremonies in spring and summer are the perfect settings to don some of the season's prettiest dresses and blouses. Go for this season's light and bright colors in simple sheaths and sundresses. Or pair soft and pretty blouses with dress slacks.
One new trend to look for is "fabric manipulation," according to the style experts at eastbridal. This season, designers are offering fun and flirty pleats, laser-cut fabrics and ruffles perfect for summertime ceremonies. Featured in eastbridal trend report were cutouts, embroidery and appliques that take garments from plain to artistic adding unique feminine details. From billowy sleeves to ruffled collars, these looks are romantic and fashion-forward enough for the lady who wants to make an entrance at this summer's fancy fetes.
When it comes to evening ceremonies, a simple dress is best. It's OK to pull out that little black dress for nighttime nuptials. From the lowest to the highest end of the retail scale, there are endless options in simple black dresses created in summer fabrics. Every lady should own one.
TheKnot editors say guests should stay away from flashy dresses and sequins. Opt for summer suits and classic column dresses in lightweight fabrics. And remember, if the ceremony is at a religious site you don't want to show too much skin either. A formal pantsuit is another great option for evening weddings.
Simple elegant dresses will take you just about anywhere. In fact, many times conservative choices are those that offer a classic look instead of a trendy one. Time has proven this style of dresses will work well on all.
