what is a nice town near NYC?
I'm looking for a small town within 1 1/2 hours of NYC that has the following: above average restaurants and sidewalk cafes (no fast food or chains); shops/boutiques/galleries; services for children such as good schools, playgrounds, community center; a town center that residents actually use.
I'm not interested in Greenwich, but the town could be similar. Does it exist? I'm guessing that with so many New Yorkers moving to less expensive places, there must be somewhere they're all going...
Check out Nyack, NY. I lived there for several years and loved it! It's a charming little town, full of lovely old victorian homes, on the west bank of the Hudson River, right where the Tappan Zee Bridge crosses the river.
It's only about a half-hour outside of the city, but it feels like you're way out of town, and the town itself is nice, the people are nice, with great restaurants and shops on a nice little Main Street, and, well, it's just a really great place to live that's convenient to New York City, and, what the heck, Rosie O'Donnell lives there, so how bad could it be?
