Why do helmet manufacturers warn not to apply decals or paint?
Every helmet I've bought has a warning label inside, and every time, one of the warnings is about sticking stickers to and/or painting the helmet. They don't say why though. I'm assuming it's because they don't want their precious logos (which also happen to be stickers) covered up. Am I right?
They can't be trying to claim that the stickers may be covering damage caused by a collision, because if it were in a collision, it would need to be destroyed anyway.

Stickers may have chemicals on them that react with the plastic of the helmet, causing it to age and crack. It probably won't happen, but it's possible, so the manufacturer has to cover himself legally in case someone gets injured due to structural failure of the helmet and then decides to sue because the manufacturer didn't warn him not to apply stickers.
