Have any of you competed in UK NAS - National All Styles martial arts tournament - what did you think?

I have - and found the organisation of the events a bit strange as they run on and on with no idea when the events are to start. If you are a adult competitor, the problem is keeping warm while waiting for your turn. Also, the same clubs seem to win, are there any politics at play here? Also the non contact rules seems strange as I was told many times to keep it light, yet my opponent went in very hard against me. Honestly, it's not sour grapes, but wonder what sort of tournament would suit me. I do actually like NAS, but find the inability to have my skills recognised frustrating. Re the forms, because I have demo'd Tai Chi I don't think the referees know what it is, and tend to reward the more familiar karate katas. Do you have any experiences like mine?

I take it you're talking about GKR karate? I really enjoyed the tournament to be honest, but I'm a member of GKR and the atmosphere is great because we tend to do so well. I can sort of see it from your point of view as the judges tend to be involved in karate, if you enter tournaments you only ever compete against yourself and if you feel you have performed to the best of your ability then that is all you can do. If you think you have been marked unfairly ask the judge after in a respectful manner what you can do to improve your kata.
