My wall switch doesn't turn on/off the lamp anymore after we replaced the wall switch and plug in outlets?
We used to be able to plug in the floor lamp to the wall outlet, then control it on/off through the wall switch. Now it doesn't work anymore.
We had to use the on/off switch on the lights now. Did we do something
wrong with the wiring? On the wall switch or on the outlet? I see black, white and red wires. Any help is greatly appreciated.
A few thoughts:
Were both the top and bottom recepticals controlled by the switch?
If just one receptical was operated by switch then you need to take the outlet back out and snap off the break off tabs on either side of the outlet.They are brass and they lie in between the terminal screws.I use needle nose pliers for this proceedure.
The silver terminal then gets the white wire.
One gold terminal gets the black and the other gold terminal gets the red.
You should now be good to go.
Oh and by the way,do turn of the breaker to this circuit before your repair.

how do I deactivate a wall switch that currently controls a ceiling fan?
Currently there's a on/off switch for a light and a dial for fan speed. The new fan doesn't require a wall switch, only a remote. What do I need to do to the wall switch to always have power accessible by the fan?
the power for you fan runs thru that switch you could just put a regular light switch there so you have at least one extra control for it or wire nut the wires together and put a blank plate over it by code all connections must be accessible make sure you turn off all power before attempting any elec work
