What is the longest time period it took you to break through a brick wall in your family tree research?
And how did it make you feel when you finally got through it? Did breaking the wall actually further you or were you just now stuck on another wall?
28 years and counting....and I know "everything" about her -- my 2nd Great Grandmother. When and where she was born, when she died, when she married my 2nd Great Grandfather, I've seen her grave many times. Unfortunately, she was married once before and her husband died about 1 month after the marriage. She kept his name as her surname and that was the name all in our family knew. Sadly, the county courthouse where they married and lived burned down in 1896 along with most all of the county documents. But still looking hard.
Had another brick wall for over 20 years until the estranged daughter died but mentioned this person in their obituary (only a few years ago). In this case, the daughter did tell HER daughter all about her past. And she was kind enough to meet with me and give me the facts I had been searching for for 20 years. How did I feel?....WOOHOO!
